Paul GRIMWOOD
Has served over 35 years as a firefighter in London and New York and is an
international Compartment Fire Training Specialist. He has three books
published on firefighting tactics and has presented over 200 papers
through international fire journals and at conference in several
countries. Paul also serves as an editorial reviewer for the Fire Safety
Journal, the official journal for the International Association of Fire
Safety Science.
He has served as a member of national UK ODPM and CLG task
groups for compartment firefighting and high-rise firefighting and further
advised similar task groups in several countries on firefighting tactics.
He has trained firefighters of several nations and structured response
tactics to suit individual needs. He is a qualified fire investigator
and established expert witness in 3D tactical firefighting, flow-rates and
flashover fires and has been involved in both the
investigative and legal process associated with several notable multiple
life loss fires in the USA and the UK since 1987.
He is the founder and principal of Firetactics.com, a
website which has provided in excess of 14,000 pages of structural
firefighting SOGs FREE to over 2.5 million visitors from more than 70
countries since July 1999 (source Webstat.com). Published in six
languages, the website has also raised thousands of dollars for burns
charities in UK, USA and Australia, whilst introducing the concepts of 3D
Firefighting to firefighters globally across two decades.
He introduced the concept of unified fire-ground strategies he termed
'Tactical Ventilation' and '3D Firefighting' in an effort to advance the
safety of firefighters at fires. These risk-based strategic models have
since been adopted by hundreds of fire authorities around the world.
He has also contributed international research papers on
high-rise firefighting tactics; firefighting flow-rates; Arson Task
Forces; International Disaster Relief and Abnormal Rapid Fire Behavior.
These works have been referenced many times elsewhere and served to
influence global response to fire & rescue strategy.
