Rapid Fire Progress ....
There are so many scientific definitions of the generic use of the term 'flashover' that the event itself appears somewhat confusing to the firefighter. The NFPA have started referring to such incidents, or events, as Rapid Fire Progress.

  • Flashover

  • Backdraft

  • Fire Gas Ignitions

  • Smoke Explosion

  • White Smoke Warning

  • Critical Fire behavior Indicators

  • Countering Actions by Firefighters

Rapid Fire Progress Guide

In reality, what should concern the firefighter more is the actions he/she might take that may (1) cause or; (2) prevent; a 'flashover' related event of extreme fire behavior. What is really frustrating is the number of times firefighters have been killed by 'extreme fire behavior' over the past two decades through their own actions .... or non-actions! If a firefighter dies through some form of extreme fire behavior in your jurisdiction .... it's 90% certain there is a 'lack of awareness' - a training issue involved.
